Student Demographics and Achievements

“As Mayor, I take heart with something teachers like to say at Golder College Prep: 'Don't go home until the job is done.' You are showing that when teachers are dedicated, parents are engaged and a principal is accountable - and all of them put students first - there is no limit to what our students can achieve.”   - Mayor Rahm Emanuel, City of Chicago

Golder College Prep is composed of over 600 students ranging from 9th grade to 12th grade. GCP students commute from all areas of the City of Chicago and the student population is composed of approximately 1% Asian American, 1% mixed race, 4% Caucasian, 11% African American, and 83% Hispanic students.

  • Over the past five years, current Golder College Prep students have provided more than 26,800 hours of service to their community.
  • For the past five years that Golder has had juniors eligible for the ACT, Golder has ranked within the top ten highest performing open enrollment Chicago high schools based on ACT scores.

In 2011, the first senior class of GCP had a 100% college acceptance rate to 4-year universities, with each senior receiving an average of 7 acceptances to 4-year universities.  With the help of their Golder teachers and college counsellors, in 2011 alone GCP seniors received an astounding total of $6.4 million in scholarships, making their college dreams obtainable and realistic.  The Class of 2012, met and even surpassed the achievements of GCP's inaugural class of graduates. Students again attained 100% college acceptance and were awarded more than $6.7 million in scholarships.

It is the mission of GCP to prepare every student so they may graduate from GCP, attend a 4-year university of their choice, and graduate from this university with a degree in an area they are passionate about.  With small class sizes, individual student attention, and devoted teachers, GCP students are demonstrating outstanding growth in ACT scores which allows them a greater choice of universities, greater scholarship opportunities, and greater options for their future.
